We all need one. Something inside us that helps to drive us toward our goal. A goal is often meaningless without this. A deeper reasoning within that brings our goal to fruition. Setting goals is one thing. Ensuring you have a concrete reason as to why you want to achieve them is what is going to separate you from the crowd when things get difficult.
This fire within I refer to encapsulates our “why”. Why we do what we do is often forgotten but provides us with all the motivation we need when we feel we are starting to slip. For example- weight loss is just weightloss until you add some powerful reasoning behind why you want this to happen. Maybe you’ve noticed your health starting to decline and you are conscious that you are slightly overweight which may be largely contributing to this - your reasoning has now become more valuable to you as your health is of high value to you. As a result, when times get tough - you are less likely to think twice before reflecting on this and choosing to continue on your path to better your health which has now become a high priority.
Sometimes we can sit down and reflect on what we really value in life when it comes to our health and fitness. We can then highlight where we would like to be in a year's time - from here we can reverse engineer the steps we must take to get there. This will help us to better formulate goals that are firmly rooted within our core values. Think about where you want to be, create some small achievable milestones that will take you closer. As highlighted in last week's article, focus on direction over speed. Ensure you are heading in the desired direction, forward is forward - and forward is progress!
