Something we can start to find harder as we grow older is losing weight. In this article I hope to offer some help and reassurance that there are plenty of simple tasks we can be doing on a daily basis to be working towards our weight loss goal! This process can really be quite simple when we get the simple things completed consistently.
Protein first.
I will harp on about this every chance I get! Having protein as our first priority when it comes to putting each meal together is what is going to be one of the more effective ways we can approach our nutrition on a daily basis. When looking to loose weight, it goes without saying that we must reduce the amount of calories we consume on a daily basis. As a result hunger may begin to creep in that little bit more often throughout the day. Having a higher protein intake will help to better manage this due foods being higher protein offering more satiety which helps to keep us feeling fuller for longer.
Step up.
Having a daily step count that will drive up activity is a great way of standardising our daily output which will help to increase the amount of calories we burn, not mention the cardiovascular benefits when done consistently alongside a healthy diet. Setting a simple 10k step target is a great place to start here! For most people 1-2 thirty minute walks plus their daily activity will be enough to get us to 10k steps!
Resistance training.
The benefits of lifting weights inside a gym are many. When it comes to weightloss it can be a very helpful activity for building muscle, losing weight and achieving a leaner or “more toned” body composition which aligns with most people’s desire to lose weight. 2-3 days a week in the gym lifting weights is more than enough and is a great habit to get into as you age if looking to better maintain your strength and function.
