All is not lost.

Something I often observe with clients, and in many instances - my own predicaments from time to time! Something we tend to do when we feel things aren’t going to plan early on in the week. We find ourselves moving down a more self destructive path for the rest of the week. Feeling that all is somehow lost - we abandon our plan and just tell ourselves we will start fresh next week, or worse again next month! This can happen so easily and can be hard to manage when you fail to see the bigger picture.
When we set ourselves some health and fitness tasks for the week and we managed to get as far as Wednesday, where we have had a terrible day in our eyes - failing to hit any of our major tasks for the day when it comes to our health and fitness. We then start to believe that our effort has been for nothing - we proceed to abandon the rest of the week telling ourselves that next Monday will suffice.
However - what will help us even more is the ability to hit the reset the following day, in this instance Thursday morning. Accepting where we went wrong and what was or wasn’t within our control is also a really helpful strategy here to figure out what we can better control in the future. Success on your fitness journey can be largely dictated by your ability to learn from your mistakes which will make you better able to learn and grow as a person as you chase a healthier life.
The ability to reset the following day is what is going to separate you from those who start to make notable progress on their health and fitness journey and those who will struggle to change the narrative when it comes to living a healthier and happier life! We do not need to be chasing perfection, if we have a bad day and learn to start fresh the following day - we are still managing to complete 6 out of 7 days in our week which is giving us almost a 90% success rate! If you are achieving a 90% success rate on your health and fitness journey tasks each week it is likely you are moving forward.
One bad day is not going to undo a week of effort. Over time, the ability to learn and adapt your health and fitness behaviours to better fit around your lifestyle is what is going to elicit long term change. While change requires change - it is important to be realistic with the amount of change you can sustainably incorporate into your lifestyle. You can start small and build this up as you start to build consistency and self efficacy on your journey. When you feel disheartened - look at the bigger picture. The ability to zoom out will give you a much more accurate idea on how far you have come - and what is possible if you just keep going!
