Recently I have hired a coach of my own, both to learn from someone with more knowledge than myself and to ensure my day to day actions are reflective of the goals I have set for myself in terms of my health and fitness as well as my career. Over the last few weeks I have had many times to reflect in the hours following discussions about how I approached my decision making on a day to day basis - and more importantly - how this aligned with the goals I had set for myself in the next year. As fitness professionals I think we can often get engrossed in helping our clients strive towards their goals and let our own goals and ambitions fall somewhat to the wayside.
I believe in a lot of cases this can come down to the fact that we know what to do but we are not holding ourselves to a high enough standard when it comes to the behaviour change of doing such things on a consistent basis to a level of accuracy that is needed for us to progress to the next level. I believe this can be applicable to a much wider cohort of people who may be reading this. Ask yourself, when looking at your current goals - does your daily actions reflect this? Can you confidently say that what you are doing on a daily basis is in alignment with the goals you’ve set. The reality is, as our goals get more ambitious - our mindset needs to become more robust in terms of what our daily non-negotiables are. Having daily behaviours done consistently over long periods of time are what will generally be the difference between success and mediocrity in terms of the goals you have set. Look at the individuals who have what you want - ask yourself if you are holding yourself to the same standards when it comes to your daily actions.
This is just something for you to now reflect on. Think about your daily behaviours, do they align with your goals? If not - what behaviours do you believe you need to start integrating into your day. Start small and build from here. At the end of each week - ask yourself are you in tune with daily actions. Make changes as needed and hold yourself to higher standards!
