In this article I hope to offer some insight on the health benefits we can acquire as a result of
spending some time lifting weights as we get older!
Bone density
Lifting weights is probably one of the best things you can do for bone density. As we grow
older we can become more susceptible to fractures and breaks as our bones density
decreases. Lifting weights helps to prevent and in many cases reverse these changes!
Retention and development of lean muscle mass!
As we grow older we become more and more subject to losing our lean muscle mass and
the strength that comes with it! It is estimated that we start to lose 1-2% of our muscle mass
per year once we turn 40! Lifting weights is a great way to hold on to your muscle mass as
you grow older and experience the many health benefits that come alongside have higher
amounts of lean muscle mass!
Add life to your years!
With respect to the points above, the main take away can be the importent role that lifting
weights can play in our resilience, our strength and our function as we get older. While there
are many health benefits that will add years to your life - the other benefits are really what
adds life to those years and makes it all the more worthwhile!
