How many times have you felt like you are getting nowhere near where you want to be. Regardless of whether it’s a health and fitness goal or something different. I believe the concept is the same - change requires change. If you want things you’ve never had, you must be prepared to start doing things you’ve never done. If nothing is changing, the likelihood is that something you are doing is not working.
Now this could be down to a plethora of reasons, maybe you are doing the right things but not doing enough, or maybe you need to start adding in some new habits to replace old habits that are not conducive to your goals or where you want to be. Think about what your long term goal is. What are some short term goals that will take you closer to this goal? Having stepping stones in place helps us to better figure out what we need to be doing on a day to day basis. Breaking our overall goal into smaller goals and figuring out what are the little things we can start doing to get to each milestone is often a good place to start.
As an example, if your goal is to lose weight - we can break this into 3 smaller goals. Increase our activity level, get stronger, eat healthier. To increase our activity level we can set ourselves a step target for the day where we aim to hit a minimum of 10k steps for the day. To get stronger we can aim to get one or two gym sessions in each week. To eat healthier we can try to increase our protein intake and reduce snacking throughout the day. It doesn’t need to be over - complicated. Having simple tasks to achieve on a daily and weekly basis is what is going to take you closer to your goal. As you start to build these habits you can then look to focus on more variables and challenges that will help you to keep improving day to day. 1 day at a time we can strive to be better - the only person we can compare to is who we were yesterday, last week and last year.
